CARING FOR CAREGIVERS
So many Canadians are drafted into second jobs as unpaid caregivers for injured loved ones. But when work, home and kids pile on the stress, burnout happens. Good friends, family and family health centres can reach out and let caregivers know they don't have to go it alone.
Help is available to support our caregivers including:
- Groups like the Ontario Caregiver Organization, Wounded Warriors Canada and Crash Support Network. Their websites, online resources and social media can suggest practical strategies;
- Family Health Centres and Doctors should have established links to proven local services that can provide practical support in your community. Given their volume of patient care, they should have already received positive feedback and be confident making recommendations. Talk to your doctor and nurse. Ask for help; and
- Your Injury Lawyer helping you and your family with your injury claim knows your stress is real. Let your lawyer know you are struggling. Experienced injury lawyers know serious injuries are lifetime injuries. Injury lawyers know families may work for years supporting their injured. Your lawyer may encourage you to reach out for appropriate professional support including to your family doctor, health care team and a local counselor.
You are not alone.
Never be afraid to ask for critical support.
