FOUR THINGS TO KNOW
Spring is right around the corner. So are those wet slippery floors and worn mats. Rain means dangerous slippery floors in our stores. When owners and management fail to maintain those floors in safety, serious injuries will happen.
Martin Law sees the same offenders every spring including:
- wet floors left unmopped;
- curled mats and floor runners; and
- worn mats never meant for high traffic entrance use but repurposed from storage by managers trying to cut corners.
When you've been seriously injured in a fall, you need help now.
Martin Law has 4 top tips:
- Go To Emergency: make healthcare your first priority. Get taken care of. It also documents your injuries. Both are critical. Then see your family doctor. Your doctor provides badly needed follow up care and her notes continue to document your pain and treatment;
- Get Pictures: ask a witness to take a photo with your own phone of the water or mat that made you fall. If you can't do that, ask a friend to go back to the store and take those photos when it's safe. Photos are really helpful. Photos let everyone see what happened;
- Get Names: witnesses are usually standing right there. Ask for names and telephone numbers. Because as time passes, so do memories and willingness to help; and
- Make the Call: many local injury lawyers provide a Free Consultation. Call your local injury lawyer first. If she lives in your community, she knows the stores, your neighbourhood and local weather patterns. Successful injury claims take time. Talk to your local lawyer and find out if she's a good match for you. You need a good working relationship with your injury lawyer. You need to know that lawyer is approachable, will pick up the phone and actually return your call. Providing support and advice to the injured is a privilege.
Spring falls are just as devastating as winter ice falls.
Your fall will have a devastating impact on your life.
